Vacant Sites Register

All the small and little-used plots of land in Frankfurt/Main that come into question for the construction of housing are listed in the Vacant Sites Register. It has a map section and a data section. The map section presents the individual plots of land on a scale of 1:2000 and provides information on the situation with regard to planning law. An accompanying data sheet describes what it is currently being used for, its state of development and an estimate of the possible number of apartments.

A map with a scale of 1:30,000 shows the distribution of vacant lots in the city as at December 2016.

Buildings to be commissioned thru December 2016 were considered when updating the list of vacant lots. Since January 2016 a total of 20 plots with 170 residential units have gone turn-key. All in all, the list of vacant sites show there to be some 490 lots that offer space to build about 2,450 new apartments.

The Vacant Sites Register can be viewed at the City Planning Department during opening times.

The empty sites in Frankfurt can also be viewed on the Internet. Through the inclusion of the empty sites in the planning information system planAS one more mouse click in the Vacant Sites Register suffices to have the current planning law, be it, for example, with regard to the legal zoning plan valid for the plot of land or the preservation by-law being drawn up, displayed swiftly and with ease.

The directory only provides information about possible construction opportunities. Interested parties can read statements about the extent to which a plot of land can actually be used for construction purposes in what are known as the proviso areas in the City Planning Department, 61.01 Downtown and 61.02 Suburban Districts, in other cases in the Frankfurt Building Authority.
You will find an explanation of the responsibilities with regard to proviso areas under construction advisory services.
